Matt Moore To Start At QB For Panthers

According to the Charlotte Observer, Panthers coach John Fox officially named Matt Moore the team's starting quarterback for this week's game against the Patriots.  But he is in no way a fantasy option.  I just thought you'd like to know.

 

Antoine Winfield To Play Sunday

According to rotoworld.com, Vikings LCB Antoine Winfield will play against the Bengals Sunday.  It's been a long time since Winfield has seen any action.  Seven straight games Winfield has missed.  Winfield is easily the Vikings best corner and a fantastic tackler.

 

More Work This Week For Justin Forsett??

The Tacoma News Tribune reports that more work might be on the way for Seahawks RB Justin Forsett.  Head coach Jim Mora confirmed that when he said that Forsett will see more action this week now that he's fully healthy.  Forsett was limited last week because because of a strained quad. We still don't know who will start at tailback for the Seahawks.  Mora said it will depend on what formation they open in.  So it looks like a timeshare.

 

The Decreasing Value of Tim Hightower

Cardinals RB Tim Hightower is listed as probable for Monday night's game against the 49ers.  Rotoworld.com says that Hightower will play, but he's not a good fantasy option. Hightower had fantasy value when he was catching tons of passes.  Well, that has changes.  He has just six catches in the last three weeks.  Hightower's value just isn't what it once was.

Bad News For The Bears

Bad news for the Bears.  Like the need more.  But "#1" WR Devin Hester is officially listed as questionable for Week 14 and he didn't take part in any practice this week, according to NFL.com.  The Chicago Tribune has already reported that Hester is unlikely to face the Packers. Rotoworld.com says that Charles Woodson will be on Greg Olsen, limiting his fantasy value.  Not many Bears look like good fantasy plays this week.

The Latest On The Saints Running Game For Sunday

So what's the deal with the Saints running backs this week??  It's a good matchup for all three of the Saints guys.  But Mike Bell missed practice Thursday and Friday.  That is usually a sign that a player won't play.  That would increase the value of Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush.  But now, Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune writes that you can "count on" Mike Bell playing Sunday against the Falcons.  Duncan writes that Bell's knee injury is "only minor."   If Bell goes, only Thomas is a worthy start.

Interesting Tidbit That Might Only Interest Me

I found an interesting bit of information in the Washington Post.  Since the Redskins selected Ladell Betts in the second round of the 2002 draft, 148 running backs — excluding fullbacks — have been drafted into the league. Every team has selected at least two running backs in that period, and the average team has taken nearly five. Every single team has drafted at least one running back since 2007 — except for the Redskins, who’ve drafted none since 2002.  Who'd a thought, huh??

Greg Jenning's Down Year

Overall, Greg Jennings has not been as productive as he was a year ago when he led the Packers in all three top receiving categories with 80 receptions for 1,292 yards and nine touchdowns. This year, Jennings has 53 catches for 799 yards and three touchdowns, which puts him on pace to finish with 71/1,065/4, says the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.   There’s no question that’s a significant drop-off from last year. The way he looks at it, defenses are paying more attention to him, and others on the team are bearing the fruit of the double-teams he and Driver receive. Perhaps the biggest difference between this year and last are the 34 catches tight end Jermichael Finley has. “There’s things that ‘Drive’ does that opens everything up for everybody else, there’s things that I do that open it up, and what Jermichael does opens everything up just as much as everything else,” Jennings said. “So what he’s able to do, split out on a linebacker, on a safety, with his athletic ability, it’s a mismatch every time.” Jennings said if the Packers weren’t winning, he might be more vocal about wanting the ball more, but he said he is not going to disrupt a good thing.

How Did The Pack Stop Ray Rice?

According to the Carroll County Times, the Packers shadowed Ray Rice with a "spy" on virtually every snap.  As rotoworld.com points out, teams are starting to realize that Joe Flacco loves to check down to Rice. The Packers held Rice to three catches; well below his season average of 5.5 coming into the game. Not all teams will contain Rice as well as Green Bay, but if other teams do what the Packers did, the Ravens will need to quickly adjust.

 

Steve Slaton Out For The Year

Texans placed RB Steve Slaton on injured reserve, ending his season, says rotoworld.com.  Slaton visited a spine specialist about the numbness in his shoulder on Tuesday. Ryan Moats will share snaps with Chris Brown for the rest of the season. Slaton's long-term prognosis is unknown.

Eagles Extend Andy Reid

According to Fox Sports Jay Glazer's Twitter page, the Philadelphia Eagles have inked head coach Andy Reid to new three year extension, securing him through 2013.

Clinton Portis Done For The Year

According to rotoworld.com, Redskins placed RB Clinton Portis on injured reserve, ending his season.  Portis didn't play very well this season before his concussion and the Skins might be looking for his replacement this offseason.  Although, Portis' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, claims that Portis will make a complete recovery for 2010, Portis was less optimistic Tuesday, says the Washington Times.  "If it's my time, I think I had a great career," said Portis. "The doctor feared that if I took another hit like that, [the vision problems] would get worse ... He said it rattled the vision and that was his main concern."

Is Brady Quinn Getting Better??

Is it possible that Browns QB Brady Quinn isn't a lost cause??  Quinn has thrown seven touchdown passes compared to zero interceptions in his last three games.  According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Browns have received a spark from the installation of Jerome Harrison as the starting running back and increased use of the no-huddle offense, and Quinn has benefited.  I'm not sure he's a fantasy starter yet.  Acutally, I am sure.  He isn't.  It's just nice to see him play well.

Matt Schaub Optimistic He Will Play

After undergoing an MRI on his left (non-throwing) shoulder, Matt Schaub remained optimistic that he will be able to play Sunday, says houstontexans.com.  Schaub's shoulder popped out during last week's loss to the Jaguars, but he was able to return after getting it reset. His MRI showed nothing unexpected and Schaub said he'll do some rehab and treatment this week before suiting up.

Redskins Cut Shaun Suisham

Redskins released K Shaun Suisham, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.  He was perfect through 10 weeks but missed three field goals in the past three weeks and obviously wasn't going to make it past his 23 yard miss against the Saints.

 

Have Teams Figured Out Randy Moss??

It seems as if teams have figured out how to contain Randy Moss. Moss has a combined 10 catches for 167 yards and two touchdowns over his last three games. "He definitely wants to be a part of the game," Brady said, according to the Providence Journal. "Sometimes it's easier to get the ball to him than others, and when they really focus on him, it's hard. You don't want to really fire the ball in double-coverage all the time. Especially when you have someone like Wes, who is able to work the inside part of the field, which [he] did a great job of yesterday. And then Aik [ Sam Aiken] made some really good plays. "Even on the touchdown play to Aik, it's man-to-man coverage, but the safety is on Randy. He's basically standing over the top of Randy, so we're not going to throw him the ball. You just don't have much of an opportunity to complete the ball. When Randy gets his opportunities, he makes the plays. Other times, they do a good job of focusing on him, and that's when we've got to get the ball to other guys."
